Icons

Icons

A few years ago, I met a renowned specialist in Byzantine art in France, Egon Sendler. He gifted me his book, which I have kept preciously. Although I did not have the opportunity to learn directly from him, I nurtured the dream of writing an icon, using the same technique and style as the famous Andrei Rublev. For me, it was an essential step in my artistic evolution.

As I discovered the art of the icon, I realized that everything was different from what I was used to: the drawing style, the symbolism of colors, the inverted perspective, the painting techniques, and the use of specific materials such as egg tempera, gold leaf, levkas… Icon painting requires great skill and a lot of patience. The steps to create a successful icon are numerous and must be carried out meticulously. It is also the theological aspect of this art that particularly interests me. Moreover, painting the invisible adds a fascinating dimension to my artistic practice.
